Renault Zoe Q90 EV charger: which one suits you best?

The Renault Zoe Q90 is one of the few electric cars that really takes 22 kW of alternating current at home. Its Chameleon charger uses all three phases of your connection. That is how it reaches 22 kW, where most EVs stop at 11 kW. A 22 kW charger is therefore worth the money on this car. Want to compare the other versions? Which EV charger suits the Renault Zoe Q90?

The Chameleon charger uses the full 22 kW AC. A 22 kW charger on a three-phase connection therefore gives you the most. Three-phase means the charger uses all three live wires of your connection instead of one. Your battery is then full again in about two hours.

We carry EV chargers with a built-in MID meter at this power level. That is a kWh meter inside the charger, calibrated to a European standard. Its reading counts as an official record of the kilowatt-hours you charged at home. It counts your car only, separate from the rest of the house. So you can see exactly what charging at home costs you.

Two more things are worth checking on a car that pulls this much current. Dynamic load balancing lowers the charging power by itself when the rest of your home needs it. That keeps your connection inside its limit. And a charger with its own app lets you set when the two-hour session starts.

We always recommend having the connection done by a certified electrician, which is safer and matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany, and nowhere else. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium you order it together with the charger. In Germany you request a free quotation first.

How long does the Renault Zoe Q90 take to charge?

With a 41 kWh battery and a 22 kW charger, count on about two hours for a full charge. That is 41 kWh divided by 22 kW. On an 11 kW charger the same charge takes almost four hours. On this Zoe the 22 kW connection is real time saved. That is unusual: most other EVs cannot charge faster than 11 kW anyway.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Renault Zoe Q90 need a three-phase connection?

For the full 22 kW, yes. The Zoe Q90 gets its speed from a three-phase connection of 32 A per phase. If your connection gives less than 32 A per phase, a 22 kW charger is often still possible with load balancing. That system turns the power down automatically, so your main fuse holds. Ask your electrician what your connection allows.

Why does a MID meter matter for the Zoe Q90?

A calibrated kWh meter records exactly how much power you draw at home. Because it sits inside the charger, it counts your car and nothing else in the house. The calibration is what makes that reading an official record of the kilowatt-hours the Zoe took. Without a MID meter you only have one household bill, and you cannot tell the car's share from it.
