Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus EV charger: which one fits best?

The Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus runs on an LFP battery (lithium iron phosphate) and rear-wheel drive. At home it charges at 11 kW, and it draws that power on three phases at once. An 11 kW charger is therefore exactly what this car asks for. A 22 kW unit adds nothing, because the on-board charger caps the pace at 11 kW.

The LFP battery helps here too, since you may charge it to 100 percent regularly without straining it. The other Model 3 versions charge at different rates, which you can compare across the Tesla Model 3 EV chargers and the full range of Tesla EV chargers.

For the Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger fits the Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus?

This Model 3 charges at 11 kW at home, so an 11 kW charger is the match. A unit like that delivers current on three phases at once. That is exactly what the car's on-board charger uses, so you need a three-phase supply to reach the full 11 kW.

Some of the chargers in our 11 kW range have a built-in MID meter. That is a calibrated kWh meter inside the charger itself. It separates your charging current from the rest of your household use, and the calibration makes the reading legally valid. We stock chargers with that meter at 11 kW and at 22 kW.

How long does the Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus take to charge?

With a usable battery of roughly 52.5 kWh and 11 kW of charging power, a full charge takes about 5.5 hours. That figure includes charging losses, so the real time is a bit longer than the theory suggests. Plug the car in during the evening and it is ready in the morning, without any planning. On the road the Model 3 charges at up to 170 kW at a DC fast charger.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Tesla Model 3 Standard Plus need a three-phase supply?

The full 11 kW at home does need three phases. With a single-phase supply the car simply charges more slowly. A certified electrician can tell you whether your home already has three phases or needs a change.

May I charge the LFP battery to 100 percent?

Yes. The Standard Plus has an LFP battery, and unlike other battery types you can charge it fully on a regular basis without damaging it. Tesla even advises it, because it keeps the range reading accurate.

Does the charger have to be fitted by an electrician?

We always advise having the connection made by a certified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium you add it to your order, and in Germany you request a free quotation first. We ship chargers worldwide, but we install only in those three areas.
