MAN EV charger: which model fits your van?

MAN builds electric vans, so your charger has to match what the van can take. The electric MAN charges on alternating current (AC) at a maximum of 7.2 kW. How the van draws that power decides which charger makes sense. Where the van parks matters too, because a home driveway and a company yard ask different things. The right EV charger for your MAN

The MAN eTGE charges through a type 2 port at up to 7.2 kW. The available specifications point to an onboard charger that spreads that power over two phases. A single-phase charger then does not use the onboard charger fully, so a three-phase charger is the safer choice.

An 11 kW charger is three-phase and delivers 16 A per phase. That is enough for the eTGE to reach its full 7.2 kW. You do need a three-phase supply at the location for it.

Some drivers want a charger with a MID meter. That is a certified kWh meter, and it logs exactly how much electricity went into the vehicle. At 11 kW the choice with such a meter is thin. The wider range sits with the 22 kW EV chargers. A 22 kW charger delivers 32 A per phase, so the eTGE keeps its full 7.2 kW there as well. Both powers ask for a three-phase connection.

The eTGE has a type 2 port, like most modern chargers. A matching type 2 charging cable is only needed if you also charge the van somewhere other than your own charger.
