Which EV charger is suitable for the Volkswagen ID.4 Pure Performance?
Because this ID.4 charges on a single phase, you can already achieve its maximum charging power of 7.2 kW with a 7.4 kW EV charger. An 11 or 22 kW EV charger will work as well, but the car will never draw more than 7.2 kW. You should therefore choose primarily based on smart functions rather than additional charging power. Most of the EV chargers recommended below have an integrated MID meter. This enables accurate and certified registration of the charged kilowatt-hours. It is particularly useful when charging costs must be reimbursed by an employer or leasing company or recorded for business purposes. How long does it take to charge the Volkswagen ID.4 Pure Performance?
You can calculate the charging time by dividing the usable battery capacity by the charging power. With a 52 kWh battery and an AC charging power of 7.2 kW, a complete charging session takes approximately seven hours. With a 3.7 kW EV charger, it takes almost twice as long, at around 14 hours. This is not a problem for most drivers: you charge the car overnight and leave the following morning with a full battery and a WLTP range of approximately 345 km.

Frequently asked questions
Does the ID.4 Pure Performance require a three-phase connection?
No. This version charges on a single phase at a maximum of 7.2 kW. A three-phase connection in your fuse box will not increase the charging speed of this car because its onboard charger only uses one phase. A 7.4 kW EV charger connected to a sufficiently protected single-phase circuit is therefore already sufficient.
Why is a MID meter important for my ID.4?
A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that accurately and verifiably records your charging consumption. It allows you to claim reimbursement for charging sessions from your employer or leasing company and reliably document electricity used for business charging. In the Netherlands, a MID meter may also be required for ERE registration. The ERE scheme applies exclusively in the Netherlands.
