Kia EV6 Standard Range EV charger: which one fits best?

The Kia EV6 Standard Range has a 58 kWh battery and charges at home at up to 11 kW. That power runs over three phases of your home supply, so it arrives as alternating current, or AC. The on-board charger converts it to DC, or direct current, for the battery. This is the smallest battery in the EV6 range, so a full charge at home takes about 5 hours.

On the road the 800V system of the EV6 tops the battery up quickly at a rapid charger. At home 11 kW stays the ceiling the car accepts, so a heavier charger buys you nothing. Our Kia brand hub holds a separate page for each EV6 version. There you can compare this one against the rest of the line-up.

For the Kia EV6 Standard Range we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Kia EV6 Standard Range?

The EV6 Standard Range charges at home on 11 kW, so you want a charger that delivers that over three phases. Beyond the power level, one feature is worth a look: a built-in MID meter. That is a kWh meter calibrated to a European standard. It sits inside the charger, so it measures your charging separately from your household use. The calibration makes that reading legally valid rather than an estimate. You will find chargers with a MID meter in our 11 kW and 22 kW ranges.

Two more features matter for daily use. With app control you start, stop and follow a charging session from your phone. Dynamic load balancing watches how much power the rest of your home is drawing. It lowers the charging power when needed, so it stays within what your supply can carry. The EV6 charges through a Type 2 plug, the connection you will find on the chargers we recommend here.

We recommend having the connection made by a qualified installer, because that is safer and it matters for your insurance. We can arrange that installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. A home charger runs on its own dedicated circuit in the fuse box. The installer sets that up at the same time.

How long does the Kia EV6 Standard Range take to charge?

With an 11 kW charger you charge the 58 kWh battery in about 5 hours. Plug the car in during the evening and it is full well before morning. That makes the Standard Range the quickest EV6 to charge at home, simply because its battery is smaller than the one in the Long Range. On the road the 800V architecture works differently. A rapid charger sends direct current straight into the battery, at up to around 180 kW. A short stop is then enough to carry on for a long stretch.

Frequently asked questions

Why does the EV6 Standard Range only charge at 11 kW at home?

The on-board charger of the EV6 accepts a maximum of 11 kW on alternating current. That applies to every EV6 version. The fast 800V technology only works for DC rapid charging on the road, not at home. A 22 kW charger will therefore not charge the car any faster at home.

Why does a MID meter matter?

A MID meter is calibrated, so what it records counts as a legally valid measurement. It sits inside the charger, which keeps your charging apart from the rest of your household use. That way you always know what charging at home actually costs you.
