Dacia Spring EV charger: which one fits best?
The Dacia Spring is a compact city car with a modest onboard charger. At home it takes 6.6 kW at most, through a Type 2 port and always over one phase. That keeps your charger simple. A 22 kW model gives the Spring no extra speed. An 11 kW three phase model is even slower, because the car then gets 3.7 kW. A single phase 7.4 kW EV charger is the most this car can use. Choosing an EV charger for the Dacia Spring
The Spring charges on one phase and never climbs above 6.6 kW. A single phase 7.4 kW charger gives you every bit of speed the car supports. A 22 kW three phase model only adds capacity you can never use. On an 11 kW three phase charger the Spring even drops to 3.7 kW. Three features do earn their place on this car. Load balancing lets the charger measure how much current your home has to spare. It then adjusts its power to match, which counts for a lot on a single phase connection. Every model in our range of EV chargers with dynamic load balancing does this.
With solar panels on the roof, a charger that follows your solar surplus fits the Spring well. Short city trips rarely need a full battery, so the car can wait for the sun. An EV charger with an app lets you start the session when your rate is lowest.
A MID meter is a MID certified kWh meter that records your charging separately. It tells you exactly how much electricity went into the car at home. That is useful if you simply want to know what home charging costs you, and it is what an employer or a leasing company asks for when they reimburse you.

An 11 kW three phase charger gives the car only 3.7 kW. A full charge then takes about 8 hours instead of 5. The Spring has a Type 2 port, so at home you charge through the connection on the charger itself. To charge the car somewhere else, you need your own Type 2 charging cable.
Charging times for the Dacia Spring
The usable battery holds 25 kWh. On a 7.4 kW charger the Spring draws 6.6 kW at most. An empty battery is full again in roughly 5 hours, charging losses included. On a lighter single phase 16 A circuit you charge at around 3.7 kW. A full session then takes about 8 hours. For a city car that charges overnight that is plenty, and you leave every morning on a full battery.
Charging at home on one phase? Then load balancing is a sensible addition. The charger keeps measuring what your electrical panel has available and adjusts its power automatically. You never overload the circuit, not even with the washing machine and the oven running.
