Why 11 kW is enough, even on a 22 kW charger
Many ID. Buzz drivers search for "22 kW charging". That is a misunderstanding, and it can cost money. The onboard charger of the ID. Buzz Pro accepts 11 kW of alternating current at most. Put it on a 22 kW charger and it still charges at 11 kW. The car sets the maximum, not the charger.
An 11 kW EV charger is therefore exactly right for this van. You pay nothing for power the car never uses. Do you want to top up faster on the road? That runs through a fast charging station on direct current, up to 175 kW, not through your home charger.
Which EV charger fits the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro?
At home you pick an 11 kW charger on a three-phase connection, the standard in many modern houses. Pay attention to the meter when you choose. An MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records your charging down to the kilowatt hour. That is what makes a home charging session billable to your employer or your leasing company. From 2026 drivers in the Netherlands get a second benefit from that same meter. The Dutch ERE registration scheme pays up to 500 euro a year, and it is available in the Netherlands only.
Two categories are worth a look beyond charging speed. Go for an EV charger with an MID meter if the kilowatt hours have to be accounted for. See our chargers for business use if the van is registered to a company. Charging purely at home and nothing else? Then our home EV chargers are the simplest place to start.
The ID. Buzz Pro uses a Type 2 connection. You only need a separate type 2 charging cable at a public charge point without a fixed cable.
How long does the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro take to charge?
The sum is simple. 77 kWh divided by 11 kW comes to roughly 7 hours of net charging time. In practice you rarely charge from empty to completely full, and there are small charging losses. Count on about 8 hours for a full charge. Plug the van in at 11 pm and you drive off in the morning with a full battery. For daily use you usually top up only part of the battery, which takes a couple of hours.

Frequently asked questions
Can the Volkswagen ID. Buzz Pro charge at 22 kW?
No, not on AC at home. The onboard charger takes 11 kW of alternating current at most, even on a 22 kW charger. Fast charging up to 175 kW is possible. That runs through a DC fast charging station, not through your home charger.
Do I need an EV charger with an MID meter?
You need one as soon as your charging has to be accounted for. That is the case for most company cars and lease cars, because reimbursement runs on a certified meter reading. Charging purely privately? Then an MID meter is not a requirement. It does show you exactly what charging the ID. Buzz costs.
Should I have the charger installed?
We always advise having the connection made by a certified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In those three countries you order the charger including installation in one go. Ordering from elsewhere? We ship worldwide, but you arrange installation with a certified electrician near you.
