NIO EV charger: which model suits your car?

Drive a NIO and your home charging power is fixed. Every NIO model listed below takes up to 11 kW on alternating current. That runs from the ET5 saloon to the EL7 SUV. NIO is also known for its battery swap stations, where a full pack replaces your empty one in minutes. At home the choice stays simple. An 11 kW charger uses everything your NIO can take. On this page you find the charging power per model, with a separate page for each version.

Which EV charger suits a NIO?

Every NIO charges at home at up to 11 kW through a three-phase connection. Three-phase means your fuse box uses three phases of your mains supply at once. You then charge faster than on a single-phase supply. An 11 kW charger uses that full power. A heavier 22 kW model charges your NIO no faster, because the car itself caps at 11 kW. With an 11 kW charger the NIO ET5 fills its usable 70.5 kWh battery in close to 8 hours. That figure includes charging losses, so it is one comfortable night on the charger.

Choose a charger with a built-in MID meter. That is a certified kWh meter, which records your charging consumption accurately. You then see exactly what home charging costs you, separate from the rest of your household use. You will find that meter on chargers in our 11 kW range, so it fits every NIO. Browse all 11 kW EV chargers in our range. The NIO battery swap stations stay handy on longer trips. At home you simply charge from your own wallbox.

We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In Germany that runs through a free quote instead of a booked installation. Outside those three countries we ship worldwide, but we do not install. You can also ask for advice by WhatsApp or phone.

Frequently asked questions about NIO EV chargers

What charging power do most NIO cars have?

The NIO models on this page all charge at home at up to 11 kW through a three-phase connection. An 11 kW charger uses that power in full. A 22 kW charger does not charge your NIO faster, because the car caps at 11 kW. They also use a Type 2 (Mennekes) connector, the European standard.

What is the difference between NIO battery swap and charging at home?

At a battery swap station NIO exchanges your empty pack for a full one in minutes. That helps on longer trips. At home you charge through your own wallbox at up to 11 kW. That is the cheapest and most comfortable option for daily use. Most NIO drivers combine the two: charging at home every day, swapping on the road. A wallbox with a MID meter stays the sensible base.
