Seres 3 EV charger: which one fits best?
The Seres 3 charges at up to 6.6 kW at home, over a single phase. That is the first thing to know before you pick a charger. A heavier three-phase charger does not make the car faster. The car itself sets the limit. A simple charger is therefore plenty. The charging details for the Seres range are collected in our Seres EV chargers overview.
For the Seres 3 we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers.

Why single-phase charging decides it for the Seres 3
The Seres 3 has an onboard charger that works on one phase only, with a maximum of 6.6 kW. That has direct consequences for your choice. A single-phase charger at 32 A delivers that full 6.6 kW. An 11 kW charger works three-phase at 16 A per phase. The car uses only one of those phases. It therefore falls back to 3.7 kW.
The practical conclusion is simple. For the Seres 3 you do not need an expensive 11 kW or 22 kW charger. A charger that delivers up to 7.4 kW on one phase gets the most out of your car. Do you have a single-phase connection at home? Then watch that enough current is left for the rest of the house. A charger with dynamic load balancing adjusts the power to what your fuse box is using. That keeps your main breaker from tripping.
Which EV charger suits the Seres 3?
The Seres 3 charges up to 6.6 kW on one phase. So you want a charger that delivers that full power on a single phase. Charging speed and a calibrated meter pull in different directions here. A 7.4 kW charger gives the Seres 3 its full speed.
Our chargers with a built-in MID meter start at 11 kW. A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter. It shows exactly what charging at home costs, separately from the rest of your household use. A calibrated meter changes the picture. The 11 kW EV chargers and the models with a MID meter are where you find one.
The Seres 3 uses a Type 2 connection. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable for charging away from home.
How long does the Seres 3 take to charge?
A matching charger delivers 6.6 kW on one phase. You then fill the 51 kWh battery in about 9 hours. Plug the car in during the evening and it stands ready the next morning. On a three-phase 11 kW charger the power drops to 3.7 kW. A full charge then takes around 16 hours.
A mobile charger as a backup
A mobile charger runs the Seres 3 off an ordinary socket, usually at 2.3 or 3.7 kW. With a 51 kWh battery that takes a long time. We recommend a mobile EV charger mainly as a backup or for the road. For daily charging at home a fixed charger is quicker and easier.
Frequently asked questions
Does the Seres 3 need a three-phase charger?
No. The Seres 3 charges up to 6.6 kW on a single phase. A three-phase 11 kW charger does not make it faster. On three phases the power drops to 3.7 kW. A single-phase charger that delivers up to 7.4 kW is the smart choice.
Why does a MID meter matter for the Seres 3?
It matters if you want to see exactly what home charging costs, separately from the rest of your household use. In our range those meters start at 11 kW. That is a trade-off worth weighing before you choose.
Should I have the charger installed?
We recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium you can book it with your order. Shipping is worldwide, installation is not.
