BYD Seal 82.5 kWh RWD Design EV charger: which one fits best?
The BYD Seal 82.5 kWh RWD Design is the efficient rear-wheel-drive version. It pairs a large 82.5 kWh Blade battery with a single motor, good for over 570 kilometres of WLTP range. At home you charge it through Type 2, the standard connector in Europe, at a maximum AC power of 11 kW. That figure decides which charger is the smartest choice for you. Driving the other version? You will find it in our BYD Seal overview, or browse all BYD EV chargers.
For the BYD Seal 82.5 kWh RWD Design we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger fits the BYD Seal 82.5 kWh RWD Design?
The RWD Design accepts a maximum of 11 kW at home, over a three-phase connection. Three-phase means your home supply has three phases, which together deliver more power than a single one. A heavier 22 kW charger will not charge this car any faster. Its onboard charger caps AC charging at 11 kW. An 11 kW charger is therefore exactly what you need.
At this power you can also choose a charger with a MID meter. That is a calibrated kWh meter built into the charger. It records your charging separately from the rest of your household use. You then see exactly what charging at home costs you, without working it back out of your energy bill. We stock chargers with this meter at both 11 kW and 22 kW. You therefore keep the full 11 kW this car can take.
The BYD Seal has a Type 2 inlet, the connector nearly every modern charger uses. At home you charge through the charger's own connection. If you also want to charge the car elsewhere, a matching Type 2 charging cable is useful. A charger fixed to the wall is the usual setup for charging at home. Our home EV chargers bring together the models built for it. We are an independent specialist, so we always point you to the model that suits your situation best.
How long does the BYD Seal 82.5 kWh RWD Design take to charge?
With an 11 kW charger you can count on roughly 7.5 hours for a completely empty 82.5 kWh battery. In practice you rarely charge from empty to full. Plug in during the evening and the car is ready well before morning. Does your home have only a single-phase supply? Then you charge at 3.7 to 7.4 kW, depending on how heavy the circuit is. A full charge then takes considerably longer. For a battery this size, a three-phase supply with an 11 kW charger is the more comfortable choice.

Frequently asked questions
Does the BYD Seal RWD Design charge faster with a 22 kW charger?
No. The onboard charger of the RWD Design caps AC charging at 11 kW. A 22 kW charger will not charge this car faster than an 11 kW model. For a genuinely quick top-up you use a DC fast charger on the road. There the Seal reaches up to 150 kW.
Do I need a three-phase connection?
To reach the full 11 kW, yes. On a single-phase supply you charge at 3.7 to 7.4 kW, depending on how heavy the circuit is. You can apply for a three-phase connection through your grid operator. We always recommend having the connection done by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance.
Why does a MID meter matter for the BYD Seal?
A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter that records your charging accurately. Because the meter sits inside the charger, it measures your charging separately from the rest of your household use. You therefore know exactly what charging at home costs you, and the calibration makes that reading legally valid.
