Which EV charger fits the Mercedes EQS 4MATIC?

Your choice comes down to one question: does your EQS have the optional 22 kW onboard charger? Without that option the car charges at 11 kW at home, and an 11 kW charger is plenty. With the 22 kW charger you only reach that speed on a three-phase charger delivering 32 amps per phase. A three-phase connection uses three live wires instead of one.

It is worth checking whether a charger has a built-in MID meter. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records exactly how much you charge. It keeps your charging separate from the rest of your household use, so you can see what charging at home really costs. At 11 kW a built-in MID meter is still rare, and it becomes common from 22 kW upwards. Our EV chargers with a MID meter show which models have one.

How long does the Mercedes EQS 4MATIC take to charge?

You work out the charging time by dividing the battery capacity by the charging power. With a battery of roughly 108 to 122 kWh that gives:

  • 11 kW charger (standard onboard charger): about 10 to 11 hours for a full charge, ideal for charging overnight.
  • 22 kW charger (optional onboard charger): about 5 to 5.5 hours. Handy for topping up during the day, or on a dynamic energy contract.

In practice you rarely charge from empty to full. For most EQS drivers a night on an 11 kW charger easily covers the daily kilometres.

Connection and charging cable for the EQS 4MATIC

The EQS has a type 2 connection. Many of our chargers are socket versions. With one of those you use a separate type 2 charging cable at home, between the charger and your car. You take that same cable with you to charge at a public point. For the full 22 kW at home you need a three-phase connection of 32 amps per phase.

We always recommend having the connection done by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. We install EV chargers in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany.
