An Alfen charging station is a high-quality Dutch choice, developed and produced in Almere. Alfen has been building electrical engineering equipment for almost 90 years and launched its first charging station in 2008. At Wallbox Discounter, you will find the complete Alfen range for home and business use. You can order every Alfen charging station separately or directly including installation by a certified installer.

The benefits of an Alfen charging station at a glance:

  • Dutch-made, developed and manufactured in Almere
  • Suitable for single-phase and three-phase charging, from 3.7 kW to 22 kW
  • MID-certified kWh meter as standard for the ERE scheme
  • Dynamic load balancing via the P1 port of your smart meter
  • Works with every back office and is SIM-lock free

What is Alfen and why is it relevant for your charging station?

Alfen was founded on 1 May 1937 as J. van Alfen’s factory for high- and low-voltage equipment in Hilversum. Since 1983, the company has been based in Almere. Today, Alfen manufactures transformer stations, energy storage systems and charging stations for electric vehicles. The company is listed on Euronext Amsterdam and supplies grid operators, leasing companies and consumers worldwide.

For you as a customer, this means three things. Production takes place in the Netherlands, so delivery times and spare parts are predictable. Alfen is not a small supplier that may disappear tomorrow, but a listed company with a long track record. And the charging station you buy has been developed by the same engineers who also build heavy energy infrastructure for Dutch residential areas. This combination of scale and specialist knowledge is reflected in the build quality of the housing, the robustness of the electronics and the finish of the connectors.

Which Alfen charging stations are available?

Alfen offers two main product lines: the Eve Single S-line for home use and the Eve Single Pro-line for users who want more features. In addition, there is the Eve Double Pro-line, a double charging station that charges two cars at the same time.

ModelPowerSuitable forMain feature
Eve Single Pro-line7,4 kWHome useCompact, RFID control, P1 load balancing
Eve Single Pro-line3.7–22 kWHome & businessLCD screen, 4G, OCPP, MID meter
Eve Double Pro-line2x 22 kWBusiness, multiple carsTwo charging points in one station

The S-line is the right choice if you charge one car at home and do not need a back-office connection. The Pro-line becomes more interesting when you want to reimburse charging sessions, connect multiple chargers or manage surplus solar power via a P1 meter. Both models support dynamic load balancing, meaning the charger automatically adjusts its charging power based on the remaining capacity in your electrical cabinet.

The Eve Single Pro-line also supports ISO 15118, the communication standard between electric vehicles and charging stations. This enables Plug & Charge: as soon as you plug in the connector, the station automatically recognises your vehicle and starts the session without a charging card or app. For business reimbursement, this is ideal because every kWh is directly linked to the correct account.

Who is an Alfen charging station suitable for?

Alfen charging stations are popular among quality-conscious private users and companies that support a fleet of lease vehicles. The quality of the components is higher than with many budget brands. This is reflected in a higher price point. If you are looking for the cheapest possible solution, Alfen is probably not the right brand. If you want a charging station that works reliably for years, even with intensive use, Alfen is almost always a smart choice.

Three situations in which Alfen is especially logical:

  • You charge for business purposes and want to accurately declare kWh with a MID-certified meter
  • You have solar panels and want to direct surplus solar power into your vehicle via a P1 connection
  • You want to expand later to multiple charging stations with mutual load balancing

Alfen and the ERE scheme: MID meter is required

Since 1 July 2026, the ERE scheme has been active, with retroactive effect from 1 January 2026. Private individuals who charge an EV at home can receive approximately €0.10 back per charged kWh through ERE certificates. Requirement: the charging station must have an integrated MID-certified kWh meter. A separate MID meter does not count.

This is exactly where Alfen is strong. All Alfen Pro-line models have a MID meter built in as standard. We have created a separate subcategory for this: view Alfen charging stations with MID meter for the full overview. If you want to compare more broadly, you can find all charging stations with MID meter that are eligible for the ERE scheme here.

The compensation is processed through a service provider that receives readout rights for your charging station. One condition is that you own the grid connection at your address. For drivers who cover many electric kilometres, this can quickly add up to several hundred euros per year. All the more reason to choose a charging station that is ready for this from day one.

Installation and warranty

Alfen charging stations are supplied either with a socket or with a fixed charging cable of 5 or 7.5 metres. Installation should be carried out by a certified electrician. The charging station requires a dedicated circuit with the correct protection, and for three-phase charging, a three-phase connection in the electrical cabinet. Not sure whether this is possible in your situation? Then consider an EV charger including installation, so we can arrange the complete process for you.

An Alfen charging station comes with a manufacturer’s warranty. Thanks to Dutch production, spare parts are readily available. Updates are delivered via the 4G connection of the Pro-line, without you having to do anything.

Frequently asked questions about Alfen charging stations

Does every Alfen charging station have a MID meter?

Yes. All Alfen charging stations are equipped with a MID-certified energy meter. The Eve Single Pro-line and Eve Double Pro-line come standard with a MID-certified kWh meter.

Can I use an Alfen charging station without a subscription?

Yes. Alfen stations are SIM-lock free. You can use the station standalone via RFID or Plug & Charge, or connect it to a back office of your choice. You are not tied to a single provider.

Does an Alfen charging station work with solar panels?

Yes. Via the P1 port of your smart meter, the station controls charging power based on what you generate. If you want to compare more broadly, take a look at charging stations with load balancing, where you can compare Alfen options with other brands.

Which app belongs to Alfen?

For home users, this is the Eve Connect app. It allows you to schedule charging sessions, view consumption and set notifications. For business customers, operation usually runs through the supplier’s back office.
