Hyundai Ioniq 9 EV charger: which one suits you best?

The Hyundai Ioniq 9 charges at home on alternating current at up to 11 kW. Its 110.3 kWh battery needs a charger that can fill it overnight. A standard wall socket is nowhere near enough. With a fixed 11 kW EV charger, the Ioniq 9 is fully charged every morning. Driving a different Hyundai? Our overview of all Hyundai EV chargers covers the rest of the range.

Which EV charger suits the Hyundai Ioniq 9?

The Ioniq 9 accepts up to 11 kW at home through a three-phase connection. An 11 kW EV charger is the logical choice for that reason. Charging faster at home is not possible, because the car sets the limit itself.

Do you want to see exactly what your home charging costs? Then pick a charger with a built-in MID meter. That is a certified kWh meter, so you read the electricity you charge at home separately from your household use.

How long does the Hyundai Ioniq 9 take to charge?

The Ioniq 9 has a usable battery of roughly 106 kWh. On an 11 kW EV charger you charge an empty battery in about 10.5 hours, including charging losses. Plug the car in around 10 pm and it is full again by morning.

In practice you rarely charge from completely empty. A daily trip of 50 to 80 kilometres is topped up in a couple of hours. For the long stretches on the road you use a DC fast charger. There the 800V system handles up to roughly 233 kW.

Does the Ioniq 9 need a three-phase connection?

To reach the full 11 kW you need a three-phase connection at home. Whether your home has one differs per country and per property. So check your fuse box, or ask your electrician. On a single-phase connection the charging power drops and the large Ioniq 9 battery takes considerably longer.

We always recommend having the connection made by a certified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. Outside those three countries you arrange an installer yourself. Shipping, on the other hand, is worldwide.

Frequently asked questions

Can the Hyundai Ioniq 9 charge faster than 11 kW at home?

No, on alternating current at home 11 kW is the maximum of the Ioniq 9. A 22 kW EV charger gives you no gain, because the car sets the upper limit. Faster charging is only possible at a DC fast charger on the road.

Do I need an EV charger with a MID meter?

A MID meter is a certified kWh meter built into the charger. It records exactly how much electricity you charge at home, separately from the rest of your household use. That tells you what charging at home costs you, month by month. A charger without a MID meter charges just as well, but it does not give you that separate reading.
