Volkswagen ID.7 GTX EV charger: which one fits best?
The Volkswagen ID.7 GTX is the sporting top version of the ID.7, with two motors and all-wheel drive. You notice that on the road. At home you do not. The GTX charges at the same 11 kW (AC) over a Type 2 connector as every other ID.7. The usable battery holds 86 kWh, so a full charge does take a while. A fixed three-phase charger, which draws power over three live wires instead of one, gets the most out of this car. See also our overview of all Volkswagen EV chargers.
For the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX?
The GTX takes a maximum of 11 kW at home, so a three-phase 11 kW charger is the obvious choice. A heavier 22 kW unit will not charge this car any faster, because the car sets the pace. That leaves the features to decide on, and with a battery this size two of them earn their keep.
The first is the meter. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records exactly how much electricity goes into the car. It separates your charging from the rest of your household use, so you can see exactly what charging at home costs you. Our range does include chargers with this meter. At 11 kW they are the minority, so start from the chargers with a MID meter and filter that list down to 11 kW.
The second is control. An 86 kWh battery draws its 11 kW for hours on end, often overnight. Chargers with dynamic load balancing handle that. The charger reads how much current your home connection has left and turns itself down instead of tripping a fuse.
App control adds the timing, so you can schedule the session for the hours that suit your tariff. You will find those units among our EV chargers with an app. If this is your first charger, our EV home chargers are the simplest starting point.

We can arrange the installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In Germany that runs through a free quotation, not as a bookable product. Outside those three countries we ship the charger but do not install it.
How long does the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX take to charge?
With an 11 kW charger and a three-phase connection you fill the 86 kWh battery in roughly 8 hours. That fits comfortably within a night on the charger. On a single-phase connection at home the car charges considerably more slowly and a full charge takes far longer. On the road the GTX takes DC at up to 200 kW. A short stop returns a large part of your range.

Frequently asked questions
Can the Volkswagen ID.7 GTX charge faster than 11 kW at home?
No. The GTX is the most powerful ID.7, but its maximum AC charging power is 11 kW. That is the same as the other versions. A 22 kW charger therefore adds nothing. For higher speeds you need a DC rapid charger on the road.
Does the ID.7 GTX need a three-phase connection?
To reach the full 11 kW, yes. A three-phase supply at home lets the car use its maximum charging power. With only a single phase available the car charges considerably more slowly and a full charge takes far longer.
Which charging cable do I need for the ID.7 GTX?
The ID.7 GTX has a Type 2 connector. With a socketed charger you use a matching Type 2 charging cable. Choose a charger with a fixed cable and it is already attached.
