BYD Seal EV charger: overview per version
The BYD Seal comes in several versions that differ in battery, power and range. Charging at home works the same for the European versions. The Seal takes a maximum of 11 kW AC (alternating current, the power a home charger supplies) through a Type 2 connection. Below you can see which BYD Seal EV charger suits each version and how long charging takes. You can also go straight to the full overview of BYD EV chargers at Wallbox Discounter.
For the BYD Seal we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers. You can confirm the AC charging power of your own Seal in the vehicle documents or on the car's display.
Versions of the BYD Seal
The Seal uses BYD's Blade battery, which is based on LFP (lithium iron phosphate) cells. Depending on the market, there is an entry-level version with a smaller 61.4 kWh battery. The Design and Excellence get the larger 82.5 kWh pack. For the Design and the Excellence, Wallbox Discounter has a separate charger page with tailored advice.
| Version | Battery | Max. AC charging power | WLTP range | Charger information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seal RWD Design | 82.5 kWh | 11 kW | approx. 570 km | BYD Seal 82.5 kWh RWD Design |
| Seal AWD Excellence | 82.5 kWh | 11 kW | approx. 520 km | BYD Seal 82.5 kWh AWD Excellence |
Which EV charger suits the BYD Seal?
The Design and the Excellence charge at home with the same power: 11 kW through a three-phase connection. Three-phase means the charger uses all three phases of your home's power supply. An 11 kW charger gets everything out of the Seal. A 22 kW charger adds nothing for this car. The Seal's on-board charger simply does not charge faster than 11 kW. So choose an 11 kW EV charger that suits your home.
When you choose, pay particular attention to a built-in MID meter. A MID meter is a certified, calibrated kWh meter. It measures the power you charge at home separately from your household consumption. That way you know exactly what charging your car costs. We offer EV chargers with a built-in MID meter at 11 kW and at 22 kW. Either one charges the Seal at its full 11 kW.
How long does the BYD Seal take to charge at home?
With the 82.5 kWh battery, an 11 kW charger fills the Seal from almost empty in about 7.5 hours on paper. Charging losses add roughly an hour and a half in practice. You rarely charge from 0 to 100 percent. One night on the charger is plenty to start every morning with a full battery. The entry-level version with its 61.4 kWh battery is full sooner.
On the road you top up the Seal at a rapid charger. The entry-level version takes up to 110 kW, the Design and Excellence up to 150 kW.
The Seal has a Type 2 connection, like most modern EV chargers. You need a matching Type 2 charging cable at public charging points. At home you only need one if your charger has a socket instead of a fixed cable.

Frequently asked questions about the BYD Seal
At what power does the BYD Seal charge at home?
Every European version of the BYD Seal charges at home at a maximum of 11 kW AC through a three-phase connection. An 11 kW charger is therefore the best choice. The Seal's on-board charger cannot charge faster than 11 kW.
Does a charger for the BYD Seal need a MID meter?
A MID meter is not required to charge, but it is well worth having. A certified kWh meter records exactly how much power goes into your car at home. It keeps that apart from the rest of your household. That gives you a reliable figure for your charging costs, for your own records or to settle with an employer. That is why we recommend a charger with a built-in MID meter.
Do I need to have the charger installed?
We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified installer. That is safer and important for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges the installation of your EV charger in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In Germany this works through a free quotation.
