NIO ET5 EV charger: overview per version

The NIO ET5 comes in two versions, with a 75 kWh or a 100 kWh battery pack. Both charge at home at up to 11 kW over a three-phase connection, which draws power across three phases at once. Versions of the NIO ET5

Which charger suits you depends on your fuse box rather than on the version. Both ET5 versions charge at up to 11 kW at home. Battery size does decide how long a full charge takes. Pick the version you drive in the table below.

Which EV charger fits the NIO ET5?

Because both versions charge at up to 11 kW, a three-phase charger that delivers 11 kW is the logical choice. That charges the ET5 as fast as it can at home. You also avoid paying for a 22 kW model that this car cannot use. Only have a single-phase connection at home? The ET5 then charges more slowly, and our customer service can tell you what is realistic for your situation.

Ideally, choose a charger with a built-in MID meter. That is a certified kWh meter, and it records your charging separately from the rest of your household use. You then know exactly what charging your car costs. Our charging stations with MID meter start at 11 kW, which is exactly what the ET5 needs. Most models in that category are 22 kW, so check the power rating before you order. Several of them combine the meter with dynamic load balancing. That lowers the charging power by itself when other appliances draw heavily.

How long does the NIO ET5 take to charge?

You work out charging time by dividing the useable battery capacity by the charging power. The 75 kWh ET5 holds 73.5 kWh useable, so an 11 kW charger fills it in roughly 7 hours. The 100 kWh version holds 90 kWh useable and needs about 8 hours. In practice both take about a fifth longer, so roughly 8 hours and 9 hours 45 minutes. Charging losses and cold weather account for that difference. On the road the ET5 fast charges at a CCS rapid charger. The 75 kWh version peaks at 140 kW DC, the 100 kWh version at 127 kW DC.

What charging power does the NIO ET5 have at home?

Both versions of the NIO ET5 charge at home at up to 11 kW over a three-phase connection. The onboard charger caps AC charging at 11 kW, even when your charger can do more. An 11 kW EV charger is therefore the most logical choice.

Which connector does the NIO ET5 use?

The NIO ET5 uses a Type 2 connector, the European standard. A charger with a fixed Type 2 cable connects directly. A socket model works just as well with a separate Type 2 charging cable.

Does the NIO ET5 need a MID meter?

The MID meter sits in the charger, not in the car. Choose one with a built-in meter if you want certified measurement of what you charge at home. Every model in our charging stations with MID meter category has one.
