Audi EV charger: which model fits your car?

Do you drive an Audi e-tron, Q4 e-tron or RS e-tron GT? These cars accept 11 kW on a three-phase supply. What you actually get at home depends on your own connection. Nearly the whole electric Audi line charges at 11 kW as standard, through a three-phase onboard charger. Three-phase means the car uses all three live wires of your supply at once. The entry-level Q4 e-tron 35 built up to 2023 charges at 7.2 kW. It reaches that full figure on an 11 kW charger. Since the 2024 update the 35 charges at 11 kW as well, like the rest of the line.

On the e-tron 50 and 55 quattro and the e-tron GT series, Audi also offered a 22 kW onboard charger as a paid factory option. Wallbox Discounter has a separate page for every Audi model. So you never have to guess which Audi charger fits your version.

Charging power per Audi model

Most electric Audis charge at 11 kW alternating current (AC) at home, through a Type 2 connection. That is the power your charger has to deliver. The speed of a fast charging station along the motorway says nothing about what you need at home.

Which EV charger suits an Audi?

Which Audi home charger fits depends mostly on the charging power of your car. For the fully electric Audi models, an 11 kW charger is the logical choice. That covers the e-tron, Q4 e-tron, Q6 e-tron quattro, Q8 e-tron and the e-tron GT series. You use the full home charging power of the car, and an empty battery is usually full by morning.

The Q4 e-tron 35 reaches its 7.2 kW on such a charger too. A single-phase 32 A 7.4 kW charger gives them that same figure. The plug-in hybrids (A3, Q3, Q5, Q7) ask less: lower power, 3.7 to 7.4 kW depending on the model. An 11 kW charger still pays off there, because it is ready for your next fully electric Audi.

For almost every electric Audi we recommend a charger from our 11 kW range.

Audi offered a 22 kW onboard charger on the e-tron 50 and 55 quattro and the e-tron GT series. Using it needs a three-phase 32 A supply at home. Compare our 22 kW EV chargers if your supply allows that.

A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter built into the charger. It measures the electricity you charge at home separately from your household use. So you know exactly what charging costs, whether you drive privately or for work. One honest note about the range: our chargers with a MID meter are mostly 22 kW models. At 11 kW the choice is narrow, so weigh the meter against the power you really need.

Our home chargers cover every power level, from 7.4 to 22 kW. To set charging times from your phone, look at an EV charger with an app. Is your fuse box already close to its limit? A charger with dynamic load balancing measures what your home is using. It lowers the charging power when needed, so your main fuse stays safe.

We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany, and a certified partner does the work. You can request installation with your Audi charging station. In Germany that runs through a free quotation. Shipping is worldwide, installation is not, so check your country before you order. Outside those three countries we always advise you to have a qualified electrician connect the charger.

Frequently asked questions about Audi EV chargers

What charging power do most electric Audis have?

The fully electric Audi models charge at 11 kW AC at home as standard, through a three-phase Type 2 connection. An 11 kW charger uses that power in full. The e-tron GT series also has an 800V architecture. That makes it exceptionally quick on direct current (DC) on the road. At home, 11 kW stays the ceiling. Only the Q4 e-tron 35 stops at 7.2 kW. It reaches that figure on an 11 kW charger too.

Do I need a MID meter in my EV charger?

A MID meter is a calibrated kWh meter, so you can read your charging use to the kilowatt-hour. That lets you split your charging costs from the rest of your electricity bill. It is just as useful for a private driver as for a company car. Do check the power first. Check the power first. The choice of Audi chargers with a calibrated meter is widest at 22 kW. So pick the charging power your Audi really uses, then see which meter comes with it.
