Kia e-Soul 64 kWh EV charger: which one fits best?
The Kia e-Soul 64 kWh charges at home on one phase, with a maximum of 7.2 kW. That is the detail that decides your choice of charger. This version cannot use three-phase power, so a heavier 11 kW charger actually costs you speed here. With the right charger you get everything the car can take. Which EV charger suits the Kia e-Soul 64 kWh?
Because the e-Soul 64 kWh charges on one phase, a 7.4 kW charger with 32 A is the natural choice. It uses the full 7.2 kW the car can take. Do you have a three-phase supply at home? Then a 22 kW charger set to one phase works just as well. On an ordinary 11 kW charger, which supplies 3 x 16 A, this car drops back to 3.7 kW.
App control is the feature worth having at this power level. Our 7.4 kW range includes app-controlled models. From your phone you set a schedule, start a session and read your usage. With a battery this size a charge often runs overnight, so shifting it to cheaper hours pays off quickly.
Then there is the calibrated MID meter. It records your charging separately from the rest of your household use, which tells you exactly what charging costs. Every charger with such a meter in our range is three-phase, and the choice at 11 kW is narrow. On three phases this car gets only 3.7 kW. The Kia e-Soul 64 kWh uses a Type 2 connection. A matching Type 2 charging cable is what you need at public charge points and at chargers without a fixed cable.

How long does the Kia e-Soul 64 kWh take to charge?
The charging time follows the charging power. On a 7.4 kW charger this e-Soul draws 7.2 kW. The plain sum, 64 kWh divided by 7.2 kW, comes to almost 9 hours. Charging losses push a full charge to about 10 hours 30 minutes in practice.
Choose an ordinary 11 kW charger and the power falls back to 3.7 kW. A full charge then takes just over 20 hours. Hardly anyone charges from 0 to 100 percent, though. For the usual 20 to 80 percent, a 7.4 kW charger needs around six hours, so a normal night is enough.

Can I charge the Kia e-Soul 64 kWh from an ordinary socket?
You can, with a portable charger, but the 64 kWh battery makes it slow. At 2.3 kW you are looking at more than a full day. We therefore suggest a portable charger mainly as a backup. For daily use a fixed 7.4 kW charger is the better choice.
