Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge Twin EV charger: which one fits best?
The Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge Twin Pure Electric both charge at up to 11 kW over a Type 2 connection. Which EV charger fits the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge Twin?
The XC40 and C40 Recharge Twin charge at home at 11 kW, provided you have a 3-phase connection. That means your home draws on three power groups at once to charge faster. A 22 kW charger will not charge this Volvo any faster, because the car never takes more than 11 kW. So pick an 11 kW charger that fits your situation. Many 11 kW EV chargers in our range have a built-in MID meter, a certified kWh meter. From 2026, private users in the Netherlands can earn back up to €500 a year through their energy supplier with a charger like that. That scheme applies from 2026 in the Netherlands only. Skip the MID meter now and you leave that saving on the table.
How long does the Volvo XC40 and C40 Recharge Twin take to charge?
The realistic charging time, including charging losses, is around 8 hours 15 minutes for an empty battery. Plug in at 11pm and you drive off full the next morning. Only got a single-phase connection at home? Then the Twin charges more slowly, typically between 3.7 and 7.4 kW depending on your connection. A full charge can then take well over half a day. A 3-phase connection is therefore the key to unlocking the car's full charging speed.

Frequently asked questions

On a single-phase connection, the car charges more slowly, typically between 3.7 and 7.4 kW depending on your setup. A qualified electrician can check whether a 3-phase connection is possible at your address.
Does the recommended charger for the Twin have a MID meter?
Many of our recommended chargers for the Twin have a built-in MID meter, a certified kWh meter. That lets you track your charging use precisely. From 2026, private users in the Netherlands can earn back up to €500 a year through it, and that scheme applies from 2026 in the Netherlands only. For business charging with expense claims, a MID meter is required rather than just useful.
