Mercedes EQE AMG 43 EV charger: which one suits you best?

The Mercedes-AMG EQE 43 4MATIC charges at home on alternating current at up to 22 kW. That became standard equipment with the production change of July 2023. Cars built before that date have 11 kW as standard, unless the optional 22 kW onboard charger was ordered. So the build year decides which charger suits your car. The usable battery holds 90.6 kWh, which puts this AMG in the largest class. A fixed charger at home is far more practical here than a portable unit. The right EV charger for the Mercedes EQE AMG 43 4MATIC

A car built from July 2023 takes the full 22 kW, so a 22 kW charger is the logical choice. That means three phases at 32 A each, which is a heavier connection than an 11 kW charger needs. Put the same car on an 11 kW charger and it charges at half speed. A full charge then takes around 9 hours 45 minutes instead of about 5.

If your car was built before July 2023, 11 kW is the standard onboard charger. An 11 kW charger then gives it its full speed, and a 22 kW charger adds nothing. The only exception is the optional 22 kW onboard charger, which was a paid extra back then. You cannot tell the two apart from the model name. Check the build year and the option list on your order confirmation.

Both onboard chargers behave the same on a single-phase supply. On a single-phase 32 A charger the car still pulls its full 7.4 kW. A full charge then takes around 14.5 hours.

Two features earn their place on a car this size. Load balancing means the charger lowers its own power when the rest of your home draws a lot. That way a long charging session never trips your main fuse. Every charger in our range with dynamic load balancing does this. App control is the second one. A MID meter is a MID-certified kWh meter built into the charger. It records exactly how much electricity went into the car at home. That is useful if you want to know what charging at home actually costs you. It also helps when you settle the amount with an employer or a lease company. One point to be honest about: at 11 kW the choice is still thin. Most of our EV chargers with a MID meter sit in the 22 kW range.

The EQE AMG 43 has a type 2 charge port, the same as almost every modern charger. Some chargers come with a cable attached, others have a socket. With a socket model you plug in your own type 2 charging cable, which you also need at public charge points. Charging times for the Mercedes EQE AMG 43 4MATIC

With the 22 kW onboard charger a full charge from empty takes about 5 hours. That is more than the 4 hours you get by dividing 90.6 kWh by 22 kW. Charging always costs some energy on the way in, and the 5 hours already accounts for that. With 11 kW the same charge takes around 9 hours 45 minutes. Plug in early in the evening and the car is ready in the morning. In practice you rarely charge from zero, so most sessions are considerably shorter.

On the road the EQE AMG 43 takes up to 170 kW at a DC rapid charger. That adds a lot of range in a short break.

You need one if you want a certified record of the electricity that went into your car at home.
