Which EV charger fits the Audi e-tron GT?

It comes down to one thing: does your e-tron GT have the optional 22 kW onboard charger, or the standard 11 kW? At 11 kW almost any three-phase charger is a good match. A three-phase connection uses three live wires instead of one. With the 22 kW option you want a charger that really delivers that power, otherwise you stay at 11 kW.

It is worth checking whether a charger has a built-in MID meter. A MID meter is a certified kWh meter that records exactly how much you charge. It keeps your charging separate from the rest of your household use, so you know what charging at home really costs. A built-in MID meter is far more common on 22 kW chargers than on 11 kW models. The e-tron GT uses a type 2 connection for home charging, the standard for home chargers in Europe. You only need a separate type 2 charging cable if you want to charge at a public point. How long does the Audi e-tron GT take to charge?

You work out the charging time by dividing the usable battery capacity by the charging power. With the standard 11 kW onboard charger, a nearly empty 83.7 kWh battery is full again in about 7.5 hours. That is exactly one night of charging. With the optional 22 kW onboard charger you are looking at around 4 hours. Plug the car in during the evening and you drive off with a full battery either way.

The 800V architecture really shows on the road. When fast charging, the car handles up to 270 kW. At home your onboard charger sets the pace.

Can the Audi e-tron GT charge at 22 kW at home?

Only if your car has the optional 22 kW onboard charger. As standard the e-tron GT charges at 11 kW AC. If you do have the option, your charger and your fuse box (3x32A) also need to handle that power.

Does an EV charger for the e-tron GT need a MID meter?

You do not need one to charge, but it is sensible. A MID certified kWh meter records your charging accurately. Because the meter only counts what goes into the car, you can see the cost of a full battery. That is useful if you want to know your cost per kilometre.

Which charging plug does the Audi e-tron GT use?

At home and at public AC points the e-tron GT charges through a type 2 connection. For fast charging on the road the car uses the CCS plug, the standard connector for DC fast charging in Europe. Thanks to the 800V architecture that allows up to 270 kW.
