An EV Charger mid meter 3 phases charges your electric vehicle with 11 or 22 kW and records every charged kWh in a legally recognised way. The ERE scheme only applies in the Netherlands and is therefore not applicable in other countries. For customers outside the Netherlands, the integrated MID meter is mainly relevant for business reimbursement, lease vehicles, employer compensation and transparent kWh registration. ERE scheme: earn money back on every charged kWh only in the Netherlands

The ERE scheme, Energie voor Vervoer with renewable electricity, came into effect in the Netherlands on 1 January 2026 and was definitively approved by the Dutch Senate on 31 March 2026. Private individuals with a suitable charger can receive approximately 10 cents back per kWh charged at home in the Netherlands. Applications can even be submitted retroactively for the whole of 2026, provided the charger has recorded the correct measurement data from 1 January onwards.

Important: this scheme only applies in the Netherlands. Outside the Netherlands, this ERE compensation cannot be used. However, an integrated MID meter remains very useful if you want to officially document charging sessions, reimburse business charging costs or settle usage with an employer, leasing company or multiple users. A separate meter in the electrical cabinet does not always replace integrated MID measurement in every reimbursement situation.

Who is this charger suitable for?

An EV Charger mid meter 3 phases is intended for households and businesses with a 3-phase connection in the electrical cabinet. Do you have a lease car or business vehicle that you charge at home? With the MID meter, you record exactly which kWh are charged for business use, allowing your employer to reimburse them transparently.

For users in the Netherlands, the ERE scheme is an additional reason to choose a charger with an integrated MID meter. For commercial locations with multiple charging sessions per day, the combination of fast charging up to 22 kW and legally recognised registration is already the right choice. Single-phase or 3-phase: what is the difference?

A single-phase connection provides a maximum of 7.4 kW. A 3-phase connection provides up to 22 kW, which is three times as much. With a 3-phase charger, you can fully charge an empty battery of an average EV in four to six hours, instead of overnight or longer.

For the Dutch ERE scheme, the charging power is not decisive; the integrated MID meter is. Still, 3-phase charging is attractive: you charge more kWh per hour and can make better use of daytime solar peaks or cheaper dynamic off-peak tariffs. 11 kW or 22 kW: which should you choose?

Most 3-phase chargers in this range provide 22 kW. Whether you can actually use that power depends on your vehicle: not every EV accepts more than 11 kW AC charging. Check your vehicle’s specifications before making your choice.

For most households with an average EV, 11 kW is more than sufficient. Do you want flexibility for future vehicles or do you charge multiple vehicles per day? Then a 22 kW EV charger offers more capacity. Models such as the Ratio io6 Pro automatically switch between 11 and 22 kW.

Several models in this overview also support ISO 15118, the modern communication standard between vehicle and charger. This enables Plug & Charge and prepares your charger for smart grid functions such as V2G, allowing electricity to be fed back from your vehicle. For business reimbursement, this is very convenient: simply plug in, with no charging card required to start the session.

Installation and electrical cabinet

A 3-phase EV charger requires a 3-phase connection in the electrical cabinet and a separate circuit with a circuit breaker or residual-current circuit breaker. If you already have a 3-phase power connection, you are well prepared. If you currently only have a single-phase connection, your grid operator will need to upgrade the connection, which may involve additional lead time and costs.

Frequently asked questions

Does every MID charger work for ERE?

For private users in the Netherlands, the MID-certified meter must be integrated into the charger itself. All 3-phase models on this page meet that technical requirement. Important: the ERE scheme and ERE certificates only apply in the Netherlands and are not applicable in other countries.

Can I apply for ERE retroactively?

Yes, but only in the Netherlands. The scheme allows applications for the whole of 2026, provided the charger has recorded the required measurement data from 1 January 2026 onwards. If you install an EV charger with MID meter now, kWh can be counted from the installation date.

Do I really need 3-phase, or is single-phase enough?

A single-phase EV charger with MID meter can also be suitable for official kWh registration and business reimbursement. For the Dutch ERE scheme, the measurement matters, not the charging power. Choose 3-phase if you want faster charging or charge for business purposes. Choose single-phase if your connection does not support more and overnight charging is sufficient for your situation.

Do I need load balancing?

With a 22 kW charger, dynamic load balancing is often recommended. It prevents your main fuse from tripping when the car, oven and washing machine all require power at the same time. Models such as the Easee Charge Max work with a separate Equalizer module, while Zaptec uses the Sense module.
