The MG MG4 Electric Standard Range charges at up to 6.6 kW at home. It does that on a single phase, so it uses one of the three power lines in your meter cabinet, not all three. Which EV charger fits the MG MG4 Electric Standard Range?
This is where the MG4 Electric Standard Range surprises people. The car has a single-phase onboard charger, the built-in unit that converts AC power for the battery. It handles 6.6 kW and draws 29 A on one phase. A single-phase 7.4 kW charger delivers exactly that.
An 11 kW three-phase charger looks stronger on paper, but it offers 16 A per phase. The car uses one of those phases, so it ends up on 3.7 kW. That is half the speed, for a more expensive charger.
A 22 kW three-phase charger runs 32 A per phase. The MG4 uses one of them and reaches its full 6.6 kW. It charges no faster than a 7.4 kW unit, so on speed alone you would be paying more for the same result.
Where the 22 kW range does add something is metering. At 7.4 kW we carry no charger with a built-in MID meter, a kWh meter that is certified for billing. Those start at 11 kW, and 11 kW three-phase is exactly where this MG drops to 3.7 kW. If you want certified metering without losing speed, look at the 22 kW models among our EV chargers with a MID meter. If the meter does not matter to you, 7.4 kW gives you the same charging speed for less.
Both an app and solar charging exist at 7.4 kW. An app lets you start and stop a session from your phone, so you can charge at the cheapest hour without walking out to the car. How long does the MG MG4 Electric Standard Range take to charge?
A usable 50.8 kWh at 6.6 kW works out at roughly nine and a half hours from empty to full. That figure includes charging losses. In practice you rarely charge from 0 to 100 percent, so a night on the charger is plenty. An 11 kW three-phase charger offers 16 A per phase. The car uses one of them, so the same battery needs about sixteen hours. That difference is the whole reason we point you at 7.4 kW.
The MG MG4 Electric Standard Range uses a Type 2 inlet, the same as the charger itself. Some chargers come with a fixed cable, others have a socket. With a socket model you plug in your own Type 2 charging cable, and you need that cable for charging away from home in any case. On a public rapid charger the car takes up to 87 kW DC.

Do I need a MID meter for this MG?
A MID meter is a kWh meter certified for billing. It records exactly what your car takes at home, separately from the rest of your household. For this MG there is a catch. Our 7.4 kW range does not carry one, and MID meters start at 11 kW. On an 11 kW charger this car charges at 3.7 kW, so choose a 22 kW model if you want the meter at full speed.
