The SsangYong Korando e-Motion charges at home at up to 6.6 kW through a Type 2 connection. It does that on a single phase, and that decides your choice. A 7.4 kW charger, single-phase 32 A, delivers exactly that maximum. An 11 kW charger runs on three phases of 16 A each, and this car uses only one of them. It would therefore fall back to 3.7 kW. Which EV charger fits the SsangYong Korando e-Motion?

Because the Korando e-Motion charges at up to 6.6 kW on one phase, a 7.4 kW charger is the logical choice. It delivers the full power the car can take. A stronger 11 kW or 22 kW unit adds nothing, because the car's own on-board charger caps the intake.

What matters more than extra power is the MID meter, a certified kWh meter that records your charging accurately. From 2026, private drivers in the Netherlands earn back up to 500 euros a year through their energy supplier. That works only with a certified meter, and the scheme runs in the Netherlands only. Elsewhere the meter still pays off, because it shows exactly what the car used and gives your employer readings they accept.

Start with the 7.4 kW EV chargers. Do you have solar panels? Then a solar EV charger is worth it. It charges on the power you generate yourself instead of sending it to the grid. The Korando charges for a long stretch, so load balancing helps too. The charger then measures the consumption in your house and lowers the charging power when the household needs it.

The certified meter is a filter of its own in the chargers with a MID meter. For a first installation without complications, the home chargers are the simplest place to start.

How long does the SsangYong Korando e-Motion take to charge?

A full charge from empty takes about 10 hours at 6.6 kW, charging losses included. Plug the car in around 22:00 and it is ready with a full battery in the morning. An 11 kW or 22 kW charger does not shorten that time. The car caps itself at 6.6 kW, and on three phases it takes even less.

The Korando e-Motion uses a Type 2 connection, like most modern chargers. You only need a separate type 2 charging cable if you want to charge at a public point on the road. At home you charge through the fixed connection of your charger.
