Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S EV charger: which one suits you best?
The Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S carries the largest battery of the range: 86 kWh usable. That is good for a WLTP range of up to roughly 700 kilometres. At home it charges through its onboard charger at a maximum of 11 kW of alternating current. That single figure decides which charger makes sense for you. Nothing at home charges this car faster than 11 kW, not even a heavier unit. Want to compare the other versions first? Browse every Volkswagen EV charger option in our overview.
For the ID.7 Pro S we recommend a charger from our 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S?
The ID.7 Pro S charges at 11 kW at home, so you need a three-phase charger that handles that power. A 22 kW model adds nothing here, because the car itself caps alternating current at 11 kW. You would pay more for speed the ID.7 cannot use.
Three features are worth weighing up for this car. A charger with a built-in MID meter, a certified kilowatt-hour meter, measures your charging separately from the rest of the household. So you see exactly what driving on electricity costs you. Our range of EV chargers with a MID meter includes 11 kW models.
Load balancing is the second one. The charger watches what the rest of the house is drawing and turns the charging power down when demand climbs. With an 86 kWh battery you charge for hours at a stretch, so that matters. Look for it among our EV chargers with dynamic load balancing.
Third, app control lets you start charging when your electricity is cheapest. You will find models that do this among our EV chargers with an app.
Our home EV chargers gather the models built for a driveway or a garage, which is the shortest route to a shortlist. We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In Germany that runs through a free quote rather than an order. Outside those three countries we ship the charger, but you arrange the installation yourself. Wherever you are, have a qualified electrician connect the unit. It is safer and it matters for your insurance.
How long does the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S take to charge?
With an 11 kW charger the 86 kWh battery goes from empty to full in about 8 hours: 86 divided by 11. In practice you rarely arrive home empty. A night on the charger is more than enough to leave with a full battery every morning. On the road you charge over CCS at up to 200 kW. That takes you from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 28 minutes. At home the VW ID.7 Pro S uses a Type 2 connection through the charger's own cable. You only need a separate Type 2 charging cable when you charge somewhere else.

Frequently asked questions
Does the Volkswagen ID.7 Pro S charge faster than the standard Pro?
No. Both charge at a maximum of 11 kW of alternating current at home. The difference is the battery: the Pro S has the larger 86 kWh pack and therefore more range. A full charge does take the Pro S a little longer, simply because more kilowatt-hours have to go in.
Does the ID.7 Pro S need a three-phase connection to charge at 11 kW?
Yes. Three phases at 16 amps each is what the full 11 kW asks for. Single-phase the car still charges, but slower: 3.7 kW on a 16 amp connection and 7.4 kW on a 32 amp one. A full charge then takes considerably longer. A three-phase connection is something your local grid or network operator handles, and how that works differs per country.
Why does a MID meter matter for the ID.7 Pro S?
A MID meter is a certified kilowatt-hour meter, the same standard your utility meter is held to. It records what the car takes, separately from the washing machine and the heating. With a battery this size that is a useful number to have. Over a year it adds up to a clear picture of what home charging actually costs.
