Kia EV3 Long Range EV charger: which one fits best?

The Kia EV3 Long Range charges at home at up to 11 kW through a Type 2 connection. This charging limit is determined by the car's onboard charger. An 11 kW EV charger can therefore use the vehicle's full AC charging capacity, while a 22 kW charger provides no additional charging speed.

What sets the Long Range apart is its 81.4 kWh battery. It offers a WLTP range of up to 605 km, so you need to recharge less often than with the Kia EV3 Standard Range. Kia now offers several electric models with different charging capacities. In our overview of Kia EV chargers, you can find the right information for your model.

For the Kia EV3 Long Range, we recommend a charger from our range of 11 kW EV chargers.

Which EV charger suits the Kia EV3 Long Range?

The Kia EV3 Long Range accepts a maximum of 11 kW AC. An 11 kW EV charger on a suitable three-phase connection is therefore the ideal match. A more powerful 22 kW charger will not charge the vehicle any faster, because the car's onboard charger limits the power to 11 kW.

After charging power, the charger's features become the main consideration. A MID meter can be particularly useful. This is a certified kWh meter built into the charger that accurately records the electricity used for charging. This keeps your vehicle's charging consumption separate from the rest of your household electricity use. You can compare suitable models in our range of EV chargers with a MID meter.

Two other features are useful with a battery of this size. An EV charger with an app allows you to schedule charging for times when electricity is cheaper. Over a charging session of several hours, this can make a noticeable difference. Dynamic load balancing monitors the available capacity of your electrical connection and automatically reduces the charging power when other large appliances are using electricity at the same time.

How long does the Kia EV3 Long Range take to charge?

The usable 78.0 kWh battery can be charged from empty to full in approximately 8.5 hours with an 11 kW EV charger. The actual charging time is slightly longer than the simple battery-capacity-divided-by-power calculation because charging losses are also taken into account. Plug the car in during the evening and it will be ready again the next morning.

On the road, the EV3 Long Range supports DC fast charging at up to 135 kW through its CCS connection. Charging from 10 to 80% takes about 35 minutes. For AC charging, the car uses a Type 2 connection. You need a separate Type 2 charging cable when using a socketed home charger or a public Type 2 charge point without a fixed cable.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Kia EV3 Long Range charge faster on a 22 kW EV charger?

No. The onboard charger of the Kia EV3 Long Range is limited to a maximum of 11 kW AC. A 22 kW EV charger therefore provides no additional charging speed. An 11 kW EV charger already makes full use of the car's AC charging capacity.

Why does a MID meter matter for the Kia EV3 Long Range?

A MID meter accurately records how many kilowatt-hours are delivered through the charging point. This keeps your vehicle's charging consumption separate from the rest of your household electricity use and makes it easier to monitor your actual home charging costs.

Should I have the EV charger installed professionally?

We recommend having the EV charger installed by a qualified electrician. This is safer and may also be important for your insurance. Wallbox Discounter arranges installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium, installation can be ordered together with the charger. In Germany, it is arranged through a free quotation from our German installation partner. Outside these countries, you arrange the installation locally.
