Porsche Taycan 4S EV charger: which one fits best?
The Porsche Taycan 4S reaches impressive power at a public fast charger, thanks to its 800 volt system. At home the ceiling is a lot lower. On a home charger the Taycan 4S takes a maximum of 11 kW alternating current (AC). With the standard onboard charger a heavier model will not charge this car any faster. Which EV charger suits the Porsche Taycan 4S?
The Taycan 4S charges at 11 kW at home, and only a three-phase connection to your fuse box delivers that. On a single-phase connection the charging power stays far below 11 kW. An 11 kW charger is therefore the logical match for this car.
Porsche offered a 22 kW onboard charger as an option on this generation of the Taycan. If your car was ordered with it, our 22 kW EV chargers let you use that extra capacity. Without the option a 22 kW charger adds nothing, because the limit sits in the car.
We think a MID meter is worth it for almost every driver. That is a certified kWh meter, which records your charging down to the kilowatt hour. In the Netherlands, and only there, that meter pays off directly. From 2026 it earns you up to 500 euro a year back through your energy supplier. Anywhere else it still gives you solid proof of what you charged at home. Every model in our EV chargers with a MID meter range has the meter built in.
How long does it take to charge the Porsche Taycan 4S?
The bare sum is 71 kWh divided by 11 kW, which comes to about 6.5 hours. In practice, count on close to 8 hours for a full charge. Charging always costs some energy in losses. Almost eight hours means the car is on the wall all night, which is exactly what a home EV charger is built for.
On a single-phase connection the car charges at 3.7 kW on a 16 amp supply, and a full charge then runs past 19 hours. The Taycan 4S uses a type 2 socket. A type 2 charging cable is what you plug in at public points, and at home too if your charger has a socket rather than a fixed cable.

Does the Porsche Taycan 4S need a three-phase connection to charge quickly?
Yes. The Taycan 4S only reaches the full 11 kW at home on a three-phase connection. On a single-phase 16 amp supply it charges at 3.7 kW, even with an 11 kW charger on the wall. We always recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician, which is safer and many insurers expect it.
