Fully electric Ford models such as the Mustang Mach-E and Explorer charge at home at 11 kW using a three-phase connection. Plug-in hybrids such as the Kuga PHEV and C-Max Energi charge on a single phase at approximately 3.7 kW. Which EV charger is suitable for a Ford?

Most fully electric Ford models charge at 11 kW when your home has a three-phase connection. For the Mustang Mach-E and Explorer, an 11 kW EV charger is therefore the best choice because it allows you to use the car’s full AC charging capacity. If you have a plug-in hybrid such as the Kuga PHEV, it charges on a single phase at approximately 3.7 kW. A more powerful charger will not charge this type of car any faster, so convenience and smart functions are more important.

Choose an EV charger with an integrated MID meter when you need an accurate and verifiable record of your charging consumption, for example for reimbursement by an employer, leasing company or your own business. In the Netherlands, a compatible charger with a MID meter may also be used for ERE registration. ERE certificates are only applicable in the Netherlands.

If you have a plug-in hybrid that charges on a single phase, a single-phase charger is sufficient. Most Ford models use a Type 2 connector. Only the older Focus Electric and Energi models have a Type 1 connection, for which you need a suitable charging cable.
