Why single-phase charging decides everything on this Mercedes

The E 300 de can only charge on one phase. That has a consequence which surprises a lot of owners. An 11 kW charger is three-phase at 3x16 A, and it actually gives this car less. It receives just 3.7 kW, because it can use only one of the three phases.

A 7.4 kW charger on a single phase at 32 A delivers the full power the car is capable of. A 22 kW unit adds nothing at all here.

If heavy appliances share the same circuit at home, look for load balancing. The charger then measures how much power is still free and turns itself down automatically, so the circuit never overloads.

Which EV charger suits the Mercedes-Benz E 300 de?
