Opel Zafira-e Life EV charger: an overview per version
The Opel Zafira-e Life is a fully electric van with room for seven or eight people. On a vehicle that size, every hour of charging at home counts. It charges through a Type 2 connection. Both the 50 kWh and the 75 kWh version use the same onboard charger, so the charger choice is identical for both. Our overview of all Opel EV chargers shows how this van compares to the rest of the range.
For the Opel Zafira-e Life we recommend a charger from our 7.4 kW EV chargers. Does your van have the optional 11 kW three-phase onboard charger? Then an 11 kW model is the better match.
Versions of the Opel Zafira-e Life
The Zafira-e Life comes in two versions with a different battery and range. The onboard charger is the same on both, so the difference is mainly how long a full charge takes.
| Version | Battery (usable) | Max. AC charging power | WLTP range | EV charger information |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Opel Zafira-e Life 50 kWh | 46.3 kWh | 7.4 kW single-phase as standard, 11 kW three-phase optional | approx. 214 km | Opel Zafira-e Life 50 kWh |
| Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh | 69 kWh | 7.4 kW single-phase as standard, 11 kW three-phase optional | approx. 292 km | Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh |
Which EV charger suits the Opel Zafira-e Life?
Start with the onboard charger in your own van. With the standard 7.4 kW charger on a single-phase connection, a 7.4 kW EV charger gives you everything the vehicle accepts. A heavier charger adds nothing there, because the van caps the power itself. Does your Zafira-e Life have the optional three-phase charger? Then an 11 kW EV charger uses the full capacity. For that you need a three-phase connection in your fuse box.
A MID meter is worth a moment of thought. It is a certified kWh meter that records exactly how much power goes into the car. That lets you separate your charging from the rest of your household use. You then know what driving costs you, instead of estimating it. One thing to note about our range: that meter starts at 11 kW. No 7.4 kW model has one built in. Alfen offers a model with a certified meter from 11 kW, and Easee from 22 kW. The full range is on the EV chargers with a MID meter page.
A charger with a fixed cable saves you carrying one around. A socket version is handier when several cars share the charger. The Zafira-e Life has a Type 2 connection, so away from home you need a matching Type 2 charging cable. An EV charger with an app also lets you set a start time and follow a session on your phone.
Charger information per version
Know which Zafira-e Life you drive? Go to the page for your version for the charging times and a concrete recommendation:
- Opel Zafira-e Life 50 kWh. The smaller battery. Full in about 7.5 hours on 7.4 kW, or about 5 hours on 11 kW.
- Opel Zafira-e Life 75 kWh. The larger battery and more range. Full in about 11 hours on 7.4 kW, or about 7.5 hours on 11 kW.
We arrange installation in the Netherlands, Flemish Belgium and Germany. In the Netherlands and Flemish Belgium you book it together with your charger. In Germany it runs through a free quote from our German installation partner. Outside those three countries we ship worldwide, but we do not install.
Wherever you are, we recommend having the connection made by a qualified electrician. That is safer and it matters for your insurance. In the two bookable markets you can order your charger including installation and we take care of the rest.
Frequently asked questions about the Opel Zafira-e Life
How fast does the Opel Zafira-e Life charge at home?
That depends on the onboard charger in your van. With the standard 7.4 kW charger, the 50 kWh is full in roughly 7.5 hours. The 75 kWh takes roughly 11 hours. With the optional 11 kW three-phase charger those figures drop to about 5 and about 7.5 hours. All of them include charging losses. The real times therefore run a little above battery divided by power.
Do I need a three-phase connection for the Zafira-e Life?
Only for the optional 11 kW onboard charger. The standard 7.4 kW charger runs on a single phase and draws 32 A. Most homes can supply that. Does your van have the three-phase charger, but your fuse box only a single phase? Then it charges at 7.4 kW instead of 11 kW. A qualified electrician can check your fuse box for you.
Does the battery size change which EV charger I need?
No. The 50 kWh and the 75 kWh have the same onboard charger, so the same EV charger suits both. The only difference is the charging time. The larger battery simply takes longer to fill.
